New Kantar WorldPanel Results Show Small Windows Phone Decline
written by Josh Robert Nay
As one can expect from not having any new devices launching, especially in the face of high profile devices like the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, Windows Phone worldwide market share showed a small decline in the last quarter, which was primarily due to an understandable slow in sales.
Windows Phone’s market share in key European markets fell 0.3% to 9.2%. Windows Phone’s share in China fell 2.8% and now holds just 0.4%. In Australia and Germany, it lost market share of 3.1% and 1.4% respectively.
Some things to take away are the fact that the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus just recently launched and has been seeing some supply issues, so the full impact has not yet been felt. In addition, these numbers don’t include some of the newer Windows Phone devices. We’re also lacking a Windows Phone flagship device, which definitely could impact mindshare and sales margins.
We’ll likely see an up-tick in sales once new, low cost devices start hitting the market in the coming months, but we’re still going to be short a flagship device. In addition, we can’t forget Windows 10, which will be coming to smartphones at some point next year.
After a pretty sparse year when it comes to new devices, I for one am looking forward to new smartphones on which to play and use my favorite Windows Games and Windows Apps.
